Everyone loves Pokémon, that’s just a fact of life at this point – but if you need proof, here it is: Pokémon TCG Pocket earned around $1.3 billion in its first year of service. That’s a lot of pack ripping!

The even wilder thing is that it managed to outdo the absolute giant of mobile games that is Pokémon Go. While the catch-em and walk-em game did also earn over $1 billion between its release in 2016 and its first anniversary in 2017, it’s been eclipsed by the even more huge earnings of the TCG app.

This comes from research by PocketGamer, looking at data estimates from AppMagic. The information shows that Pokémon Sleep, Masters, Unite, and Café Remix earned next to nothing compared to the ginormous success of TCG Pocket and Go. I’m not sure how monetization in Sleep works, but it’s not hard to imagine that the lure of opening packs of cards eclipses whatever you can buy there. Unless it’s a good night’s sleep, in which case it would be the best-selling game of all time.
